Review of Supergirl #20

I've mentioned a couple of times that Power Girl, costar of Worlds' Finest with Huntress, crossed over with Supergirl this week. I have not read the issue myself, but I did read the preview, and it was awesome. Here is a review I thought was well written of the actual comic. Maybe this might push some of you on the fence over into a purchase. If you scroll down, there is also a review of the latest Batgirl which is fairly good.

It's Okay To Reboot Batman's Origin

Here is an interesting article. I generally like continuity to go unchanged unless it is absolutely necessary, but it is hard to disagree with the points laid out here. Essentially, this article just points out what fans were saying when Year One was released and how upset they were that Batman's perfect origin story was being change. Pretty amusing since that is the exact same thing people are saying today only it is Year One that is now being defended.

Four More DCNU Titles Cancelled

Four more DCNU titles bit the dust, but thankfully, all Bat titles are safe. Well, somewhat thankfully. Quite frankly, I wouldn't mind Catwoman or Worlds' Finest being canceled at this point. Anyway, the series to get the axe are Threshold, Dial H, Demon Knights and Legion of Super-Heroes. None of these come as shockers. However, it does seem to support the idea that non-superhero titles just don't fly in the DCU. I suppose you could make a case for all these titles being superhero books of a sort, but none of them are very traditional. Despite their poor sales though, most of these titles were actually pretty good from what I've heard. The only one to really carry much negative buzz was Legion of Super-Heroes which, from what I've heard, was a series about a lot about future teens hooking up which occasionally saving the universe.

A Look at DC's August Solicits Outside the Bat Family

I've come to really enjoy the blog of Grumpy Old Fan. He has routinely good analysis. Anyway, he speculates his way through DC's August solicits. Points of interest, he speculates that DC might be using the Batman, Incorporated Special as a gauge as to whether or not Batman, Inc. should continue after Morrison (former writer of Rebellion's 2000AD and Batman and current writer of Batman, Incorporated) departs. He suggest that the  Trinity War could be used to un-reboot the DCNU, and he discusses a forthcoming Legion reboot...because that series has not been rebooted enough already.

Teaser Trailer for Arkham City

Are teaser trailers ever even worth it? I find I almost always end up more frustrated by them than excited. This one only shows the logo and about ten seconds of a fight between Batman and Deathstroke, but the battle is so frantic and edited so much that I didn't really enjoy it that much. Every time I started to enjoy the action, the camera would shift to a different shot, and it broke the flow of my enjoyment.

Batman: Zero Year Start Off with a Surprise

I have no idea what the surprise is, but Snyder (former writer for Batman and Talon) and Capullo (former penciler for Image's Spawn and current cover artist for Batman) say that from page one, you will know this is a brand new take on the Batman origins.

We get lots of little tidbits of interest. Harvey Dent will definitely be in this series, and I suspect will also be along for the ride. Capullo said he intentionally gave Red Hood some Joker like mannerisms though they say that might just be to taunt fans with the possibility. Personally, I'm betting Red Hood is riddler.

We also see Snyder and Capullo's general feelings about the arc including Snyder's typical endearing insecurities. Oh, also there are some new pages from the story to view.

Batman Schools Superman in This Sketch

I wish I could have come up with a better headline, but that's what I've got. This is a video of a guy who sketches Batman beating down Superman. The video takes about five minutes, but it has cool music, it showcases the art process well, and the finished product is really cool. You should at least skip to the end and check out the finished product.

The artist is Masoo Tahir

More Images for Scribblenauts Unmasked

We get to see some cool locations and puzzles in these images including Wayne Manor, The Fortress of Solitude, the Bat Cave, Atlantis, Oa, and what I'm guessing is Keystone City and Themyscira. (I can never remember how to spell that word) along with all the characters you would expect to find in those places. Man, this makes me actually want to buy a 3DS, but I almost never play the games I already have on 360, so I must control myself.

Scribblenauts Unmasked Trailer

Whoo! This looks awesome.

Scibblenauts Unmasked is a game that combines the puzzle solving, word-based craziness of Scribblenauts with the insanity of the DC universe. This trailer looks really cool.

According to the article attached Here, players will get to draw from a poll of DC words to make new creations. For instance, Bane Lantern. How cool is that? Also at one point in the trailer, a menu opened for different Batman costumes including a stone age Batman costume from Return of Bruce Wayne. Awesome.

Nocenti Talks the Present and Future of Catwoman

Ann Nocenti (former writer for Daredevil and current writer for Catwoman and Katana) covers quite a few topics. Some that interested me are the plans she has for Catwoman after the Penguin arc, the nature of the Hub that Selina found under Arkham, the way she designs her characters, and the nature of Prison Life magazine.

Prison Life magazine is something that Nocenti edited for a time much like High Times, but I could not find out easily what this magazine was about and I did not care enough to look in depth.

With writing characters, apparently Nocenti gets an idea about who they are by how they look and she works from there.

Black Canary/Green Arrow Romance Sucks in Arrow

The headline is a bit of an oversimplification of the concept, but in essence, that is what this article says. This article reviews this past season of Arrow and chronicles the hits and misses the series has provided. #1 in the miss department, the lame love triangle between Ollie, Laurel, and Merlyn. I stopped watching the show around episode five, but I can't help but agree that the chemistry between Ollie and Laurel was weak, and the idea of a love triangle has pretty well been beat to death in comic stories.

This was a well written and well thought out article. Click the image to read it.

Sarah Gaydos Defects from Gotham to IDW

"Who is Sarah Gaydos?" you probably ask. Well, she's not a big name, but she has done a whole lot for DC behind the scenes as an editor. She was the former editor of Arkham Unhinged, Young Justice and Batman Beyond, and she is the current editor  of Smallville, DC Nation Sampler, Injustice, Ame- Comi Girls and Vetigo's Django Unchained. However, her time with DC is nearing an end. She will soon be with IDW helping with current projects and developing new ones.

Kevin Keller Beats Kate Kane, Batwoman

Kevin Keller won over Kate Kane in  a GLAAD award. I don't recall of the top of my head what the acronym GLAAD represents, but it is an awards program that gives props to media for portraying the LGBT community in a good light. Batwoman was up for the award, but Kevin Keller, then gay character from Archie comics, won the day. The believe the image below shows the creator of Kevin Keller with the award.

Has anybody read this series out of curiosity? Is it any good?

Batman To Get It's First Female Writer

Can that be true? It's hard to imagine that over...what...seventy years or so of publication, Batman has never had a girl writer. Well, that's what DarkKnightNews is reporting. Even now, girls are still banned from the regular issue, but a Snyder (former writer for Detective Comics and Vertigo's American Vampire and current writer of Batman and Talon) protege, Marguerite Bennett, will be handling the Batman Annual for this year. This will be Marguerite's first foray into comic book writing. Click the link to learn a little more about her.
